Trial and Retribution New Series. Lynda La Plante is always a compelling storyteller and her female characters, especially in Prime Suspect and The Commander are dynamic stuff. For the first tale in this new series, she serves as a producer and leaves the writing to another. Thankfully it's almost as taut. The plot teeters between a 'cold case' and Greek tragedy. Like most British dramas it is ruthlessly sterile, but that's always a positive. Punctuated by split screen perspectives and excellent performances it's another Friday night of ripping Brit crime. 8.30pm Friday on ABC1. Thinking XXX Here's a repeat, but another chance to catch a behind-the-scenes look at the making of a book of adult film stars, both clothed and nude. Acclaimed portrait photographer Timothy Greenfield-Sanders snapped Jason Hawke, Chad Hunt, Ron Jeremy, Jeremy Jordan, Michael Lucas, Sean Michaels, and Lukas Ridgeston. At 12.35am is Unveiled (Germany 2005), the story of a gay woman who flees persecution in Iran, after her sexual relationship with a married woman is discovered. Rpt. 10pm Friday on SBS ONE. Flight of the Conchords Jemaine commits the ultimate sin by dating an Aussie sheila named 'Keitha' (a most colloquial Sarah Wynter) who may have possibly mocked his accent. Her mother is a panel beater, her father is in prison. Keitha:"You couldn't get more Australian than me. My great-great-grandpa was a renowned rapist, and they shipped him out to Australia and that's where he met my great-great-grandma; she was a prostitute." It's all about NZ payback and it's very, very funny. 9pm Monday on SBS ONE. Australia's Next Top Model
Final. Live. Last year Jodhi Meares notoriously bailed the day before the live finale of Foxtel's biggest local production, effectively killing her television career. This year Sarah Murdoch is not only committed, but pumped. More excitingly, tomorrow night is the second season of Project Runway Australia (7.30pm Wednesday on Arena) with several flamboyant boys who know a thing or two about stitching and bitching -in fact everybody does. The show wasn't malicious last year and here's hoping it celebrates talent with its diverse contestants once again. 7.30pm Tuesday on FOX8 The Wire
New Series. Here's a show I would have loved to tell you all about, but Nine couldn't be bothered sending a DVD preview. Never mind that it is lauded by critics as one of the best TV shows of all time, they'd rather I write about Random Acts of Kindness. Not gonna happen. Thankfully the ABC plans to rerun the whole series anyway. While we're on the subject, ABC couldn't be bothered sending out any new eps of Beautiful People or Being Human either, so sadly, don't expect these to show up in this column any more. 11.45pm Tuesday on Nine. And also 2 Mums and a Dad repeated 1:30pm Friday on SBS; Eddie Perfect programmes rage 11:40pm Saturday on ABC1; triple j tv presents Lily Allen 10:30pm Monday on ABC2; The Tudors new series 8:30pm Wednesday on Showcase; Curb Your Enthusiasm new series 12am Thursday on Nine; Heroes finale.
