Bernadette Peters Live from the Adelaide Cabaret Festival

One of Broadway's most divine divas takes to the stage in the city of churches. Along with Angela Lansbury, Peters is probably the quintessential performer of Sondheim; though there were reports she didn't quite include all her signature tunes here. Show queens take note: it's followed by Bill Collins' A Conversation with Jerry Herman (filmed in Herman's LA home) and Jerry Herman Live at the Hollywood Bowl thereafter.

8.30pm Saturday on the Bio Channel.

    Bones

Sheesh! Forensic artist, bisexual Angela (Michaela Conlin) has a break up with Roxie, after being told she lives in the moment too much and never looks to the future. A lame excuse, lady. But then Angela goes and consoles herself by sleeping with entomologist Jack Hodgins (T.J. Thyne). Can we say 'rebound' or can we say 'just another example of US TV failing to depict sexuality with much credibility?' Either way, I was barely entertained.

    8.30pm Sunday on Seven.

    This Afternoon

Premiere. Nine’s new one-hour arvo show will sit somewhere between news, current affairs and light magazine fluff. It's all part of a network push to wrest back its beloved news mantle (hey, we didn't axe Sunday – you did) and plug those lead-ins to 6pm. Hosted by Andrew Daddo, who, despite the running joke surname, is actually very good in this genre, and joined by Katrina Blowers. Nine axed its 18 year run Extra show in Brizzy to make room for this. Can this one even manage ¼ of that run? They wish.

    4.30pm Monday on Nine.

    Morel Orel

Premiere. Get ready for a very wicked claymation series set in the bible belt of the US of A. Orel is an 11-year-old boy who just wants to follow the Christian word to the letter – with disastrous results. He unleashes a plague of zombies on his town, develops crack addiction, and has a wet dream while dreaming of a blessing from God. Think South Park meets Wallace & Gromit!

10pm Wednesday on the Comedy Channel.

    Beautiful People

It's hard not to be won over by the sheer exuberance of the flamboyant lifestyle of young Simon in the dull ’burbs of Reading in the 1990s. Breaking into song wedges the show into camp, fantasy territory – as if it wasn't there already. Tonight, Simon's eccentric grandmother ‘Narg’ loses God and comes for a visit, in a guest role played by the one and only Brenda Fricker.

    9.25pm Thursday on ABC2

    King of the Hill

Even in the US they do it. Hank encourages Bobby to dress up in drag for the school's 'Powder Puff' female cheerleader impersonation. But Peggy and the PTA are trying to put a stop to the tradition. As Bobby tells it: "Then we practiced popping each other’s boob balloons, then we practiced popping each other’s butt balloons."

    12am Friday on Seven.
