    From Lesbos to London

Boris Johnson (His Worship, the Mayor of London) would have to be one of the most colourful Mayors I have ever encountered. As mentioned in a previous report, I was fortunate enough to be invited to the reception he held at City Hall for Pride London. City Hall (pictured) is a surprisingly modern building situated in the quite stylish Southbank area of the city. London's Living Room (as the reception area is called) overlooks the Thames and boasts an almost 360 degree view.

The function was attended by the absolute who's who of GAY London - in fact the invitation list was so tight, not even Pride London could get extra tickets. Guest speakers for the evening included London's (gay) deputy Mayor Richard Barnes, comedian Stephen K Amos and of course, Boris.

Animated of gesture, colourful of word and very entertaining, the Mayor had just arrived back from Greece so he used his time to discuss the intricacies of Lesbos, etc, with a rather amused crowd. Suffice to say, the evening was a huge success for all concerned as Pride Week was kicked off in grand style.

My next report will take you into the wonderful world of West End theatre. Shaun Newport from Pride London has arranged tickets for me to see a very special show at the Playhouse Theatre - off to iron yet another frock.

Brett Hayhoe is president of Pride March Vic.
